Message of The Chairman/head of Department

Civil Engineering profession usually includes a variety of engineering specialties like structure, transportation systems, water resources, construction management, geotechnical and environmental engineering that deals planning, designing, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of infrastructure for sustainable development of the nation. The aim of the department is to provide quality education to our students by following state-of-the-art curricula, having dedicated and talented faculty, and by creating an environment that is conducive for teaching and learning. Department has set up a well-coordinated guiding system that provides counseling and support to the students. Every student is advised and encouraged to interact with faculty members, and session coordinators to take guidance for their field of choice and contribute to the society as professionally mature team leaders. Civil Engineers are employed in a broad spectrum of engineering opportunities like construction firms, manufacturing companies, power companies, petroleum industry, mining, entrepreneurship, and consulting engineering firms. Many opportunities for Civil Engineering employment also exist in district, provincial and federal engineering departments as well.

Introduction

The profession of civil engineering deals with planning, designing, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of infrastructure for the sustainable development of the nation. This is a diversified discipline covering building structures, transportation systems, geotechnical, water resources, and environment for the development of the civilization. The department of civil engineering at “Ibadat International University, Islamabad” was established in 2011. Since then, it is serving the community by ensuring efficient transfer of civil engineering knowledge to its students. The students are provided with an exceptional blend of theoretical concepts and their practical applications, enabling them to face real-world challenges with confidence. The curriculum is designed with the professional knowledge of highly qualified engineering faculty and industry experts. Advance engineering knowledge, skills, and ethics are incorporated in the curriculum to groom the students. The highly qualified faculty and staff along with state-of-the-art lab facilities ensure that the future engineers will be capable of serving in different fields of civil engineering nationally and internationally.

 

The civil engineering department has now started the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) System to bring the education of the University at par with the international standards. The latest teaching methodology in correspondence to the outcome-based education system will equip the graduates with hard and soft skills to groom their learning outcomes.  We aim to educate the students of civil engineering about the importance of environmental impacts of construction activities so that they can contribute to the sustainable development of society. The students are also encouraged to further explore their curiosity in the subject by continuing their academic careers. They are also mentored and motivated to gain expertise in advanced fields of civil engineering. The graduates of civil engineering are required to undertake an internship of 6-8 weeks duration during 3rd year, which often provides them job opportunities after graduation. Students are also required to complete a two-week Survey Camp. A formal evaluation is carried out and Pass/Fail grade is awarded to the students. In addition, seminars, workshops, and field visits are arranged by the department to provide exposure to diverse learning activities. 

 

Degree Title: BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Program Duration: 4 years (8 Semesters)

Recognized by: Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Engineering Council

Entry Requirements: 12 years of Education, HSSC Pre-Engineering with Physics, Chemistry and Math, A-level or equivalent scoring a minimum 60% marks, DAE, BSc Engineering Technology or equivalent in the relevant discipline as per PEC regulations with the minimum of 60% marks

Entry Test: Ibadat International University Entry Test/UETs Entry Test 2021

 

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The Department of Civil Engineering has designed the following Educational Objectives for the BS Civil Engineering program that are aligned with the program mission, vision, and mission of the university by the involvement of all stakeholders.

 

PEO 1: Graduates will play an active role in engineering practices, academia, research, and development.

PEO 2: Graduates will be capable to address practical problems and adapt to changes in technology as well as needs of the society.

PEO 3: Graduates will continue exploring knowledge to develop professional competence and awareness about engineering practices and environmental concerns.

PEO 4: Graduates will prove trustworthy and resourceful team members as well as team managers practicing codes of ethics.

 

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

These Program Learning outcomes (PLOs) are the learning outcomes, which will be inculcated to the students to equip their knowledge, skills, and ethics as enlisted below:

 

PLO 1-Engineering Knowledge: An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PLO 2-Problem Analysis: An ability to identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

PLO 3-Design/Development of Solutions: An ability to design solutions for complex engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PLO 4-Investigation: An ability to investigate complex engineering problems in a methodical way including literature survey, design and conduct of experiments, analysis and interpretation of experimental data, and synthesis of information to derive valid conclusions.

PLO 5-Modern Tool Usage: An ability to create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modeling, to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.

PLO 6-The Engineer and Society: An ability to apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice and solution to complex engineering problems.

PLO 7-Environment and Sustainability: An ability to understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

PLO 8-Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

PLO 9-Individual and Teamwork: An ability to work effectively, as an individual or in a team, on multifaceted and /or multidisciplinary settings.

PLO 10-Communication: An ability to communicate effectively, orally as well as in writing, on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

PLO 11-Project Management: An ability to demonstrate management skills and apply engineering principles to one’s own work, as a member and/or leader in a team, to manage projects in a multidisciplinary environment.

Career Prospects

There are various opportunities for the graduates of civil engineering in the government departments, such as NHA, WAPDA, Communication and Works, Railways, Irrigation Department, Military Engineering Services, NESCOM, PAEC, Development Authorities, National and Multinational Consultancy Services, Contractor Firms and Entrepreneurship. The graduates will play a key role in the execution of projects like roads, buildings, bridges, dams, barrages, housing societies infrastructure, and quality testing laboratories. Graduates can also pursue their careers in academia as faculty and researchers. They can also explore the prospects of entrepreneurship by starting their own contractor/consultancy firms. We, however, do consider our students to be the most valued asset. Internship, Workshops, Seminars & Extra-Curricular Activities

All students of Civil Engineering are required to undertake a summer internship of 8 weeks duration after the completion of 90 credit hours that often lead to job opportunities after graduation. Students are also required to register, attend and successfully complete a two-week Survey Camp. A formal evaluation is carried out and Pass/Fail grade is awarded to the students. In addition to curriculum related learning activities, Seminars, Workshops and field visits are organized by university to give students the exposure of diverse learning opportunities.
