Human Nutrition and Dietetics is a branch of applied health sciences that deals with efficient planning and modification of diet for promotion of health, prevention and cure of disease both at individual and population levels. Malnutrition is a major public health problem in the Pakistan; its current dimensions are largely determined by past underdevelopment and discrimination. Poverty and malnutrition combines with disease, both chronic and infectious and results in death, disability, stunted mental and physical growth. Hence, effective strategies and intervention programs are required for improvement and sustainability in the nutritional status and general wellness of the masses. It is therefore, imperative to produce professionals that can significantly contribute in uplifting the national nutritional status, launch and strengthen ongoing nutrition intervention programs, enhance public awareness, and reinforce the global efforts regarding health promotion and disease prevention through nutrition. Realizing the importance of nutrition and dietetics in the daily life and nutrition security being the cornerstone of health and sustainable development, IBADAT International University Islamabad has launched under-graduate degree program in the field of Human Nutrition and Dietetics and aims to produce competent manpower in this field. The core aim of this program is to produce graduates with knowledge in the field of applied nutrition and therapeutic dietetics, practical skills in the area of clinical nutrition, deep understanding of an appropriate range of biological sciences such as biochemistry, microbiology, physiology and pathology, along with the subjects of social sciences; sociology and psychology for promoting intellectual skills of reasoning and communication.
The University Institute of Diet and Nutritional Sciences at The University of Lahore, Islamabad Campus was established in February 2015. The department was offering an undergraduate degree program titled “Doctor of Diet and Nutritional Sciences”. The University of Lahore, Islamabad Campus obtained its own Charter as IBADAT International University Islamabad under Act No. XVIII-2021 of the Parliament.The Department of Diet and Nutritional Sciences is now offering a four years degree program “BS Human Nutrition and Dietetics” and revised and updated its curriculum as per HEC guidelines.
To reinforce the diverse nutrition and dietetic knowledge and healthy life style in students through trans-formative power of food and nutrition.
To develop a systematic and efficient understanding of latest knowledge, professional skills, principles of moral values and sense of responsibility in students focusing on human nutrition and dietetics to contribute in global health and well-being of the population through uplifting their nutritional status with intake of variety of foods, good dietary habits and healthy life style.
